Dentures Broken or Cracked FAQs
Can I super glue my broken denture?
This is NOT recommended! Many household glues are unsafe in the mouth and permanently damage acrylic, making professional denture repair difficult. Instead, call us and bring the denture to your scheduled appointment.
Should I keep my denture wet or dry until my visit?
Keep it moist in clean water (never hot). If you incorrectly store the denture dry, the appliance will warp, making repair a challenge.
Can a cracked denture be repaired the same day?
Yes. In some cases, such as a simple crack or a single tooth replacement, it may be repaired chairside. More complicated repairs will require lab work. We will provide you with a time estimate after inspecting the damage.
Why do dentures start cracking?
Causes include drops, heat warping, long-term wear, bite forces (clenching/grinding), and changes in jawbone and gums that alter fit.
When is a reline or a remake better than a repair?
If the base of the denture no longer fits your gums or fractures keep recurring, a reline, rebase, or a new denture is the only way to restore stability. Implant support can further reduce movement and may be recommended as necessary.
What if a clasp on my partial denture breaks?
Bring the denture and broken clasp into our office. We can often replace or repair clasps and adjust the fit so it stays secure without harming your natural teeth.
